RoMa Craft Tobac 1794 Whiskey Rebellion Pennsatucky, Cigar Dojo Exclusive

In 2016, the original Whiskey Rebellion cigar launched in a singular robusto format, being sold exclusively through Pennsylvania-based retailer, Famous Smoke Shop.

The release was limited to only 6,000 cigars, which became one of the fastest-selling Dojo collaborations to date, completely selling out in only one hour.

Whiskey Rebellion 1794 Pennsatucky seeks to break that record, bringing back the original blend in a connoisseur-centric 6 ½ x 44 lonsdale format, marking the first Dojo collaboration to feature a lonsdale vitola.

“From the time we started talking about this brand with Dojo on the balcony overlooking Bourbon Street in New Orleans, I’ve wanted to express the blend in this size,” commented Skip Martin, co-proprietor of RoMa Craft Tobac.

Eric Guttormson, owner of Cigar Dojo, commented, “The blend on the Whiskey Rebellion has always been one of my favorites.

But when you put it in a lonsdale you take it to a whole new level!

Skip, Michael, and the RoMa Craft team knocked this out of the ballpark – I absolutely can’t wait for Dojo nation to get their hands on this cigar.”

The Ecuadorian Habano Ligero wrapper is coffee bean in color with the usual tooth, seam and vein.

At 6 1/2 x 44 it’s rolled in the Lonsdale format.

This size is commonly referred to as the “Connoisseurs Cigar” as it has a rounded cap with a small bit of filler exposed at the open rounded foot.

The vitola has two bands colored black and white.

The thinner band reads “INTEMPERANCE” with “CIGARS” underneath, easily identified by anyone who’s an avid smoker of RoMa Craft with the logo on the backside.

The larger band is what sets this Intemperance apart from the available production from RoMa Craft cigar.

Matte black in large white font between white trim reads “1794” in between reads “WHISKEY REBELLION” under the white trim identifies the exclusivity of the cigar reading “CIGAR DOJO” in between two white stars, the Dojo logo in white rounds out the back of the larger band.

Pre-light aroma had notes of baked cookies, light vanilla and malt.

The cold draw produced flavors of oak, earth and dried fruit sweetness.

A pleasant aroma of sweet cedar off the toasted foot. Immediate flavors of bitter walnuts and light leathery raw hide.

The blend settles in quickly on the Lonsdale format with rich cedar, mocha and oily walnuts.

Background flavors of leather, hickory and assorted roasted nuts. The spicy element is in the form of a leathery bite at a level of MED.

The retro-hale is producing a MILD-MED white pepper burn on the nostrils with a long finish of chocolate.

In the second half cedar, mocha and assorted roasted nuts are up front and on point.

Background flavors of coffee, leather and light chocolate blend in with all aforementioned flavors.

The spicy element continues in the form of a distinct leather bite at a level of MED.

The retro-hale continues with MED white pepper with a long finish of dried fruit.

Heading into the final third core flavors of roasted nuts and cedar with a sweetness of mocha are up front and on point.

Coffee, leather and an appearance of nougat occupy the background.

Thus far the smaller format of the Lonsdale has intensified the flavor profile with the wrapper to filler ratio for a condensed experience of all aforementioned flavors.

The spicy element continues with a leather bite keeping the blend balanced in the straight MED bodied wheelhouse.

The retro-hale has remained consistent with white pepper producing a long finish of dried fruit.

• CONSTRUCTION: Solid construction on 1794 Whiskey Rebellion Pennsatucky. Firmly packed with no palpable soft spots, cracks or blemishes on the Lonsdale format.

• BURN: Consistent combustion of wrapper, binder and filler with a razor sharp burn line throughout. A thick circular carbon line was visible even on the darker wrapper.

• ASH: The lighter colored ash was super solid producing a stack of dimes, holding an inch-plus.

• CUT: All examples (8) were v-cut.

• DRAW: The perfect amount of straw type resistance produced a copious amount of creamy white smoke.

• RE-LIGHTS: Zero re-lights required.

• FIRE: Jetline triple torch lighter.

• STRENGTH: Straight MED bodied.

The 1794 Whiskey Rebellion is an enjoyable cigar in all of the many formats it’s offered.

Three years ago the Robusto version of that was a Dojo Exclusive, it scored very high and was part of our top 25 for 2016.

The Lonsdale format, sometimes referred to as the connoisseurs cigar, comes to us yet again as a Cigar Dojo exclusive in a size that truly highlights some of the consistent and balanced flavors in the straight MED bodied wheelhouse.
