Barrel-Aged Highland Charge from Heathen Brewing

Named for a real battle tactic where Scottish fighters rip off their kilts and run naked at shocked English troops, today’s multi-award winning Highland Charge Scotch Ale and Bourbon Barrel-Aged Edition from Heathen Brewing will get you in the fighting spirit.

Barrel-Aged Highland Charge seizes the deep caramel of the original and saturates it with shards of vanilla-soaked booze and a heightened 11% ABV.

Whiskey glazed cavendish banana aromatics glide into brûléed brown sugar and whiffs of molasses boiling over an open flame.

Highland Charge and Barrel-Aged Highland Charge from Heathen Brewing

Drink a few snifters of Highland Charge and BBA Charge and you’ll be ready to take on any dare, maybe even dress up in a kilt and wave around your broom like a broadsword!

If you’re more restrained, pull up an easy chair and sample both versions in a vertical tasting.

No rowdy distractions between you and this chance to experience the rarely-seen effect of bourbon barrels on a Scotch Ale.

Appearance:

A brownish-red dark pour that is reminiscent of a tawny port against the light.

Agitated side lacing with a light cinnamon tanned spongy head.

Aroma:

Sweet aroma of caramel, vanilla, smoked malt and a bouquet of fermented dark fruit through the nose.

Flavor:

  • Caramel/Toffee
  • Dark Malt
  • Vanilla Cream
  • Fermented Dark Fruit/Tart Cherry
  • Tobacco
  • Boozy Bourbon/Smoked Oak

Overall:

The mouthfeel is thick and creamy-smooth with a hint of tart fermented fruits.

Smoked oak with a mild boozy effect added to the warm smokey finish with an after taste of caramelized toffee and dark malt.
