Black Label Trading Company Ligero Hawaii, R. Field Wine Co. Exclusive

Last June Black Label Trading Company announced the release of Ligero Hawaii.

This is the second exclusive project for BLTC and the Hawaii based retailer, R. Field Wine Co. after the highly rated  Last Rights Box Press was released back in 2017.

Ligero Hawaii is produced at Fabrica Oveja Negra in Esteli Nicaragua.

“Ligero Hawaii is our second Hawaii exclusive and is a very bold, rich and complex cigar.

It’s a great representation of what BLTC strives for, full body and full flavor!

The PA broadleaf wrapper adds a great earthy element that pairs perfectly with the Nicaraguan fillers.

We will be launching this cigar at an R. Field Wine Co. event at the Prince Waikiki Hotel in Honolulu, July 6, 2018,” said James Brown, creator of BLTC and partner at Fabrica Oveja Negra, in a press release.

Available Size:

  • Robusto: 5 1/4 x 52
  • Bundles: 10 Count

The Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper is Kona Coffee bean in color (Hawaiian reference) showing heavy tooth, seam and vein.

At 5 1/4 x 52 it’s rolled in the Robusto format with a wide open foot and a rounded triple cap.

Two bands sit on the Ligero Hawaii, the primary band is an infusion Santeria meets Polynesian for the R. Field Wine Co. exclusive.

One skull with a crown is surrounded by palm trees both in white on a glossy black background with a surrounding white border.

The secondary band is around the foot of the cigar reading “Ligero Hawaii” in white tribal font with palms and a Hibiscus flower on a glossy black background with white accents.

Pre-light aroma had notes of damp wood, earth, coffee and cocoa.

The cold draw produced flavors of dried fruit, raisin and lingering leather spice on the palate and lips.

A heavy aroma of campfire and cedar off the toasted foot.

Initial flavors of cedar char with a thick molasses sweetness.

The blend settles in quickly with espresso, dark chocolate and leather.

Background flavors of dried fruit add a touch of sweetness.

A FULL compliment of black pepper accompanies every draw with a perfect balance notable during active smoking and in between draws.

FULL white pepper on the retro-hale producing a long sweet finish of sweet cedar.

In the second half the Ligero Hawaii maintains it’s FULL bodied profile with distinct flavors of strong black coffee, chocolate brownies, leather and rich cedar.

Sweet flavors compliment the background profile with dried fruit and tart raisins.

Black pepper remains FULL balancing in with all aforementioned flavors actively and in between draws producing a long sweet and spicy finish.

The retro-hale has amped up to FULL-PLUS with a wasabi sting through the nose evolving into flavors of sweet cedar and chocolate.

In the final third the cigar hasn’t lost any strength with complex core flavors of strong black coffee, dark chocolate, cedar and creamy leather.

Nuances of sweet flavors dominate the background profile with dried fruit, raisins and a hint of molasses.

Black pepper has tapered off only slightly keeping the blend bold and balanced.

Consistent spice through the nose on the retro-hale with FULL white pepper producing a long finish of dried fruit sweetness.

• CONSTRUCTION: Solid! No palpable soft spots, blemishes or cracks on the Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper.

• BURN: Razor sharp, no inconsistencies on the burn line producing a thick black carbon line.

• ASH: The salt and pepper colored ash was thick holding an inch-plus producing a stack of dimes requiring force to tap off.

• CUT: V-Cut all examples smoked for review and personal consumption.

• DRAW: Perfect milkshake type resistance producing copious amounts of thick aroma filled smoke.

• RE-LIGHTS: Zero.

• FIRE: JetLine triple torch lighter.

• STRENGTH: FULL bodied PLUS. FULL flavored and balanced.

Store exclusives or non store exclusives? A cigar is a cigar and if you enjoy the product of a certain manufacturer because it appeals to your particular palate then it’s a no brainer!

And does being exclusive and limited make the cigar better? That’s for you to decide.

Ligero Hawaii was everything you’d expect from BLTC!

A heavy compliment of chocolate, coffee and transitioning pepper throughout all three smoking stages kept the cigar FULL bodied PLUS, complex and balanced for an enjoyable hour and a half of pure smoking pleasure.
