Quesada Oktoberfest Das Brauhaus 2016 Nicaraguan


Oktoberfest is one of the most famous festivals in the world. The yearly celebration attracts millions of people to Munich to partake in the festival, with millions more enjoying the famous beer produced for it.

Traditionally, there is a cigar tent for Aficionados to enjoy a smoke with their brew. The Quesada family has blended a cigar specifically to be paired with the flavorful Marzen-style beer produced for Oktoberfest.

Blended with a variety of flavorful Dominican & Nicaraguan tobaccos, the Quesada Oktoberfest is available in very limited quantities. Enjoy them with your favorite Oktoberfest beer. Only released during the months close to October.




Back in 2011, the line was originally introduced in two sizes. Since then, the Oktoberfest line has become an annual release that has expanded in its offerings each year.

For the past four years, the Oktoberfest has been a Dominican puro out of the Dominican Republic.

In 2016, two limited edition Nicaraguan puros out of Nicaragua, Das Brauhaus and the Triple Bock Haus join the Dominican offerings.

The Nicaraguan Habano wrapper is dark chocolate in color with notable seam, tooth and vein. The Das Brauhaus is rolled in a classic perfecto shape with a smaller open foot and a pig tail cap. Two bands sit atop the cigar with the primary label colored blue in the shape of a knights shield. Sky blue is the primary background color with gold trim surrounding the shield.

The top reads “QUESADA” in straight white font, below reads “OKTOBERFEST” in white German style font. Along the sides in a smaller white shield is the colors of the German flag in red, black and yellow with the Quesada Cigars logo, under reads the company’s name incursive. Underneath looks to be a cluster of oak leaves colored in gold.

The secondary label denotes the vitola as a Nicaraguan puro, “2016” represents the current year in white block numbers with two frosty beer mugs on each side of the numbers, the word “Nicaragua” is in small white font.

The band has gold trim all happening on a red and black checkerboard. It’s quite a busy motif but representative of the early offering from Quesada Cigars. Pre-light had aromas of light chocolate and dry peanuts, almost a Captain Crunch smell to it, the cold draw produced a flavor of plain tea.




Upon first light flavors of bitter char and black pepper. Coffee, chocolate, sweet notes of cedar and creamy leather. There is a nuance of dry meat noted on the roof of the mouth. A distinct flavor of raw almonds has also appeared.

The retro is producing a sting of white pepper through the nose evolving into flavors of coffee.




Entering cruise control burn flavors of dark chocolate, coffee and sweet cedar. Black pepper has decreased significantly giving the aforementioned flavors a bold taste that’s quite enjoyable.

The retro has decreased, but only slightly, evolving into flavors of caramel and coffee.




In the final third the black pepper has returned at a medium level bringing back a spicy profile, most notable on the lips and palate in between draws. The pepper hasn’t overpowered the rich flavors of rich dark chocolate, coffee and cedar char.

A new flavor of nougat is creating a sweet spice noted on the back of palate. The evolution of strength and flavor on such a short vitola is quite impressive thus far.

The retro is still producing low level white pepper evolving into flavors of caramel and chocolate.




The construction on the Oktoberfest Das Brauhaus was perfect, as I mentioned before the evolution of flavors on such a short cigar was impressive so was the construction on what I imagine is a difficult vitola to roll.

The cigar burned straight with a razor sharp burn line on all three examples smoked for review. The draw had the perfect amount of resistance producing thick plumes of aromatic creamy white smoke.

The strength of the Das Brauhaus was in the HIGH MEDIUM to FULL range with an array of FULL and sometimes spicy complex yet balanced flavors that kept me interested and entertained from first light to final third. Recommend buying a box.
