Warped Corto RF-X50, R. Field Wine Co. Exclusive

Warped Cigars told us, Corto RF-X50 was a Hawaii exclusive for R. Field Wine Co. and only 200 boxes were produced.

The exclusive cigar is stronger than the normal production Corto at the request of Marvin Chang, so we obliged his request and made it our strongest Corto offering to date.

The cigar launched at the R. Field Wine Co. – Warped Cigars event last October with Kyle Gellis in attendance.

The concept behind the Corto is each year a new size will be released, as the previous year will be retired. Corto translated is Spanish for word “SHORT”.

We talked to Marvin Chang via phone interview, he told Cigar Smoke “We had about 150 people at the event in October. I loved the size of the Corto X50 and since it’s been discontinued Kyle agreed to duplicate the vitola calling it the RF-X50. RF is the acronym for R. Field Wine Co. located in Hawaii”.

He also said “The blend contains a small amount of Medio Tiempo”. Medio Tiempo leaves grow in small amounts atop the tobacco plant, Medio Tiempo adds depth and structure to a blend and is a rare tobacco leaf prized by growers for its rich flavor.

In closing he told us about upcoming events in 2019 with some big names in the industry. Stay Tuned!

Warped Corto Sizes:

  • Corto X46: 4.5 x 46
  • Corto X50: 4.5 x 50
  • Corto RF-X50: 4.5 x 50  – R. Field Wine Co. Exclusive

  • APPEARANCE

The Corojo 99 wrapper is almond with a shade of rosado in color. Packed with filler, the cigar has a dense feel to it. At 4.5 x 50 the RF-X50 is box pressed in the petit robusto format.

Visually smooth it has minimal tooth and seam showing notable vein with a wide open foot and a rounded triple cap.

The vitola has two bands, the primary label is light blue with “CORTO” and “WARPED “ in solid blue font on a cream white background.

The secondary band is what sets the look of this limited release Warped Corto apart, decked out in navy blue with gold accents reads “SELECCION DE WARPED” in solid gold font surrounding a “W” to round out the regal looking theme.

Pre-light aroma had notes of cocoa, coffee, malt and cedar. The cold draw produced flavors of leather, earth and balsa.

  • FIRST LIGHT

An aroma of sweet chocolate and warm cedar off the toasted foot. The Corto RF-X50 jumps right into it sans the usual first light char.

Flavors of malt, milk chocolate and rich cedar. Background flavors of creamy leather and coffee.

The spicy element is extremely complex, a transition of white and black pepper combined with a distinct peppered cinnamon bite is producing a long and complex finish.

A burn of FULL white pepper on the retro evolving into flavors of cinnamon spice.

  • CRUISE CONTROL BURN

In the second half the RF-X50 remains FULL with flavors of coffee, creamy leather with nuances of milk chocolate and peppered cinnamon.

Assorted roasted nuts have appeared in the background with flavors charred toffee and floral notes.

The spicy element remains complex and balanced with black pepper complimenting every draw.

A long finish of clean white pepper though the nose with a long evolution of cinnamon.

  • FINAL THIRD

In the final third flavors of coffee, creamy leather and peppered cinnamon are up front and on point.

Background flavors remain consistent with roasted nuts, toffee and floral with nuances of plain buttered toast.

Identifiable black pepper is keeping the blend balanced, FULL bodied and FULL flavored, actively and in between draws.

Clean white pepper on the retro evolving into a long finish of cinnamon spice.

  • CONSTRUCTION/STRENGTH

• CONSTRUCTION: With a dense feel to it the semi box pressed Corto RF-X50 had flawless construction. Smooth but solid there were no palpable soft spots, inconsistencies or blemishes.

• BURN: Razor sharp with a with a semi circular carbon line around the wrapper.

• ASH: The dark grey ash was thick and compact. Holding to an inch plus it produced the effect of a stack of dimes. The ash tapped off with ease from its own weight.

CUT: V-cut all 5 examples smoked for review.

• DRAW: Wide open draw with almost no resistance.

• RE LIGHTS: Zero.

• FIRE: JetLine triple torch.

• STRENGTH: Rich and FULL of flavor the Corto RF-X50 was in the FULL bodied wheelhouse from first light to final third.

  • CONCLUSION

The Corto from Warped is a recognizable offering produced in 25 count cabinets.

Two Hundred boxes were produced for the R. Field Wine Co. event last October.

What sets the RF-X50 apart from the regular production line? Medio Tiempo!

Even in small quantities it enhanced the blend producing a hybrid of strength and balance in the semi box pressed format.
