Short Cuts: Caldwell Cigar Co. Drew Estate All Out Kings

Caldwell Cigar Co. Drew Estate All Out Kings

The collaborative project was announced earlier last year at Cigar Federation’s Cigar Safari where Robert Caldwell, Founder of Caldwell Cigar Co., Jonathan Drew, Founder of Drew Estate, and Willy Herrera, Master Blender of Drew Estate, led the tours blending session where attendees collaborated together with Caldwell, Drew and Herrera to create blends and lay out the rules they couldn’t break.

Jonathan Drew from his Wynwood, Miami Safe House stated, “Collaboration with Caldwell and Willy was super fresh. It was great to watch the magic come together from each of the crews. There is a lot of creativity birthed into ALL OUT KINGS, which will resonate from the cigar taste profile to the imagery that smashes the expected. This is an extended family collaborative that knows how to get down.”

APPEARANCE

I was given one of the white banded prototypes at the 2016 IPCPR show in Las Vegas last July FULL REVIEW CLICK HERE. The prototype, for lack of a better term, in the 5 x 52 robusto format (Smash) and aside from an early sample of AOK, and being slightly greener in taste both cigars had very similar characteristics. The Connecticut Habano Wrapper was dark coffee bean in color, oily with notable seam, tooth and vein. The vitola has a rounded triple cap and a wide open foot.

Visually this is an extremely well rolled cigar. The band on the AOK is lighter grey color with a copper colored crown, borrowed from “Long Live The King” and since the “King Is Dead” I’m sure he won’t mind, the crown is being held by who I can assume is Robert Caldwell, Jonathan Drew and Willy Herrera. Symbolic is the only word that comes to mind as the three gentleman holding it are all on the top of there games in the cigar industry with there respective company’s, Caldwell Cigar Co. and Drew Estate.

On the side reads “All OUT KINGS” in solid copper font, the art looks signature Caldwell. On the other side is the respective company’s logos in circular copper. Pre light aroma had notes of barnyard, cedar and caramel. The cold draw produced flavors of strong plain tea, leather and cedar.

SUGGESTED PAIRING

CONCLUSION

As previously mention I’ve smoked over half a dozen AOK’s and every one was consistent in taste, balance and flavor. While the artwork is typical Caldwell, the way the cigar smoldered on the wrapper is a frequent occurrence on most of the products I’ve smoked from Drew Estate. All examples enjoyed had very strong core flavors of coffee, chocolate and mild pepper.  Although the cigar has a slightly higher price point than most products that debuted at last years trade show, it was a fine example of what a collaboration of two of the industry’s top dogs can offer.
