Cigar Review: RoMa Craft Aquitaine EMH Saber Tooth

RoMa Craft Aquitaine EMH Saber Tooth

The RoMa Craft Aquitaine EMH Saber Tooth measures 5 x 56, the same size as the regular production EMH with nearly the same identical blend.

The Aquitaine contains the same long filler and full bodied blend found in the US Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapped CroMagnon, including its unique Cameroon binder.

The Aquitaine diverges from the original CroMagnon with an Ecuadorian Habano Ligero wrapper.

The blend is made up from three separate growing regions in Nicaragua: Esteli, Condega and a small farm north of Esteli on the Honduran border.

This Tiger get’s its stripes by using the same rolling process as its counterpart the Black Irish.

We asked Skip Martin about the technique in creating the unique design, he told Cigar Smoke

“It’s an Ecuadorian Habano Ligero wrapper under a Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper off set to create a thin striped Barber Pole design, the same process in which the CAO America uses”.

He directed us to a video on YouTube called Making an American cigar this is the exact same technique in which the EMH Saber Tooth is constructed.

One Available Size:

  • 5 x 56
  • Boxes: 200
  • Box Count: 24
  • Production: 6,000 Cigars

  • APPEARANCE

There is a contrast in color between the full wrappers of Ecuadorian Habano Ligero in both light and dark shade to create a barber pole design, with tooth and vein showing heavy seam.

At 5 x 56 it’s rolled in a Robusto Extra format with a wide open foot and a rounded triple cap.

One band sits on the vitola, a thin light brown band with a classic RoMa Craft design sits atop a thicker white matte band with cave glyphs in embossed pearl white.

Pre-light aroma had notes of brown sugar spice, cocoa and cedar.

The cold draw produced flavors of fermented fruit, cedar and a mild leather spice.

  • FIRST LIGHT

An aroma of rich cedar off the toasted foot. Initial flavors of raw walnuts and cedar char.

Once the blend settles in there are immediate flavors of cocoa, coffee and woody cedar.

The background profile is producing creamy leather and a raw cinnamon bite with a natural tobacco balance.

MED white pepper on the retro producing a long finish of caramel.

  • CRUISE CONTROL BURN

Entering the second half, the EMH Saber Tooth has transitioned into a complex offering of brown sugar and raw cinnamon with creamy nuances of leather.

Background flavors of roasted nuts, rich cedar and roasted coffee.

The spicy element is in the form of a consistent leather bite balanced in with the aforementioned flavors.

MED white pepper on the retro producing is a long finish of caramel.

  • FINAL THIRD

In the final third core flavors of raw cinnamon, brown sugar and creamy leather have been up front and on point.

Background flavors of assorted roasted nuts, rich cedar and coffee have been consistent since cruise control keeping the blend both balanced and complex producing a mild leather bite.

A consistency of MED white pepper on the retro producing a long and balanced finish of caramel.

  • CONSTRUCTION/STRENGTH

• CONSTRUCTION: Impressive construction of a barber pole, the Aquitaine EMH Saber Tooth stayed true to form without cracks, blemishes or soft spots.

• BURN: The vitola never lost its integrity or separated with a consistent smolder of all components producing a thick carbon line of the dual wrapper.

• ASH: The salt and pepper colored ash was thick and held an inch-plus producing an effect of stacked nickels.

• CUT: V-cut all three examples smoked for review.

• DRAW: Milkshake type resistance producing copious amounts of thick creamy aromatic filled smoke.

• RE LIGHTS: Zero re-lights with consistent combustion.

• FIRE: JetLine triple torch.

• STRENGTH: MEDIUM-PLUS.

  • CONCLUSION

The Aquitaine EMH Saber Tooth was one of RoMa Crafts most anticipated domestic releases in 2018.

In the straight MEDIUM-PLUS bodied wheelhouse it produced a myriad of woody cedar, roasted coffee and cinnamon spice with a distinct creamy leather bite.

With the look of both beauty and beast this tiger earned its stripes with construction and complexity in both strength and balance.
