Cigar Review: Todos Las Dias Mas Fuerte, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust

Todos Las Dias Mas Fuerte, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust

The TLD Thick Lonsdale “Mas Fuerte” is a 6 x 46 parejo with a pig tail finished head and packed in 10 count boxes with a red “Mas Fuerte” label applied on the box.

Steve Saka, the founder and master ligador of Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, shared via a press release “The Thick Lonsdale Mas Fuerte is the result of some confusion between myself and the factory.

When originally blending the TLD liga there were two finished core blends comprised of the same tobaccos, but with different proportions. Ultimately, I selected the one I felt worked best in the original formats to be released and relegated the other to my blending diary.”

Todos Las Dias Available Sizes:

  • Wide Belicoso: 4.7 x 60
  • Toro: 6 x 52
  • Thick Lonsdale Mas Fuerte: 6 x 46
  • Robusto: 5 x 52
  • Half Churchill: 4.7 x 48

The TLD Mas Fuerte is dark brown in color showing minimal seam with notable tooth and visible vein.

At 6 x 46 is rolled in the “Thick Lonsdale” format with a wide open foot and a triple rounded pigtail cap. Mas Fuerte is one of the smaller ring gauge offerings from DTT.

Two bands sit on the vitola, the primary band is colored with silver accents on a diamond shield with the initials “TDL” in silver.

Saka explained the reversal in initials last year “Yes, the band is confusing.

It is a monogram… so TLD is suppose to appear as “tDl” on a monogram – first letter of the last name goes in the center – so this I did right, but it just looks wrong because no one knows their monogram etiquette”.

The secondary band is around the foot reading “Todos Las Dias” in silver cursive on a matte black background between silver boarders.

Pre-light aroma had notes of red licorice and cedar. The cold draw produced flavors of leather spice, floral and clove.

An aroma of campfire and roasted coffee beans off the toasted foot.

Initial flavors of charred wood and bitter orange peel.

Once the blend settles in flavors of leather, damp earth and black coffee.

Up front flavors are a bit overpowering to detect anything identifiable in the background other than a consistent peppery finish.

A complexity of red and black pepper has jockeyed for position hitting the top and sides of the palate adding to the long and spicy finish.

A nose sting of white pepper and wasabi on the retro evolving into flavors of peppered caramel.

At the halfway point up front flavors of coffee with a nutty influence of raw walnuts and peppered almonds.

A mild sweetness of maple and raw cinnamon has appeared in the background profile with a consistent peppered finish.

The red pepper noted at first light has vanished.

A throat punch of straight black pepper has taken over the spicy element of the TLD Mas Fuerte keeping the vitola FULL bodied PLUS thus far.

FULL white pepper on the retro evolving into flavors of caramel.

In the final duration the Mas Fuerte’s intensity dials down a notch. Flavors of raw walnuts, coffee and brown sugar char have moved up front.

The background influence has become a bit more pronounced due to the decreased strength level, flavors of leather with nuances of sweet maple and almonds are detected.

Black pepper has been consistent with a minimal decrease in the final duration, FULL-PLUS has decreased to the level of FULL.

A minimal decrease in white pepper on the retro evolving into a long finish of caramel.

• CONSTRUCTION: Flawless construction on all examples smoked for review. No palpable soft spots, cracks or blemishes detected.

• BURN: Razor sharp with a with a minimal carbon line around the burn.

• ASH: The light grey ash held to the inch point producing a stack of dimes effect.

• CUT: V-cut all examples smoked for review.

• DRAW: Perfect milkshake type resistance on the draw producing copious amounts of thick creamy aroma filled smoke.

• RE LIGHTS: Zero.

• FIRE: JetLine triple torch.

• STRENGTH: The smaller format of the TLD Mas Fuerte was in the FULL-PLUS bodied wheelhouse with a slight decrease of intensity in the final duration remaining at a level of FULL.

DTT offerings are known for complexity, balance and strength. TLD is offered in a wide range of sizes, The TLD Robusto received our 2017 cigar of the year honor with a rating of 95.

IMO the smaller format of the TLD Mas Fuerte intensified the blend to level of FULL bodied PLUS.

An enjoyable cigar however, some of the flavor nuances were muted with an increased nicotine content and were a bit overpowered by the wrapper to filler ratio in the thick Lonsdale format.

A different animal to say the least, Mas Fuerte translated means “Stronger” and the cigar certainly lives up to its name! experienced aficionados recommended.
