Cigar Review: Jas Sum Kral Toothpick 2.0 Maduro

Jas Sum Kral Toothpick 2.0 Maduro

The idea came from one man, Riste Risteski, who was disappointed with most cigars currently available on the market. Smoking mainly Cuban cigars, he wanted to create a profile which maintained Cuban standards, while adding an interesting yet elegant twist.

He wanted to add value to what is already a saturated boutique market. Being Macedonian and large in stature AND personality, the name for this cigar came easily, JAS SUM KRAL, I AM KING in English. Jas Sum Kral Cigars

The JSK Virus is spreading like wild fire as Jas Sum Kral added to its impressive portfolio with 2 new cigars called the JSK Toothpick 2.0. the cigars  offered in both Habano and San Andres Maduro.

Each of the cigars have an Indonesian binder covering both a long and mixed filler blend of Ometepe, Estelí and Jalapa tobaccos from Nicaragua.

Both cigars are available now and come in one size at 5 x 50 Robusto offered in 50 count boxes. Jas Sum Kral returned to the 2018 trade show after a one-year absence focusing on moving into a brick and mortar distribution model.

Available Size:

  • Robusto: 5 x 50
  • San Andres Maduro or Habano
  • 50 Count Boxes
  • MSRP $6.00

We spoke with JSK owner Riste Risteski about the blend, in edition he told Cigar Smoke “The JSK Toothpick 2.0 are a F*ck ton of flavor at a amazing price”

The JSK Toothpick 2.0 is a lighter shade of Maduro and is light milk chocolate in color showing some tooth, vein and seam. Offered in the Robusto format at 5 x 50 it has a triple rounded cap and a wide open foot.

With the subtle lighter shade of Maduro it was difficult to differentiate between the two wrappers at least visually, but still identifiable from the label.

One band sits on the cigar with off setting colors of black and white, the Maduro reads “TOOTHPICK 2.0” in black font on a white background in front of a shield topped with black crown.

Along both sides have 2 rampant lions in ornate design adding a regal look about the Motif giving credence to the statement “I AM KING”. Pre-light aroma had notes of malted dark chocolate, coffee and dark stout. The cold draw produced flavors of smokey cedar, pumpernickel bread and poppy seeds.

A heavy aroma of chocolate emanating off the toasted foot. After initial combustion, mild cedar char with roasted nuts. Settling in flavors of milk chocolate, roasted almonds and creamy hazelnut.

Background flavors of creamy leather with nuances of mocha. Very little spice in the form of a MILD to MED black table pepper dusting. MED white pepper on the retro with a clean finish.

Heading into the second half are heavy doses of chocolate! Flavors of mocha, milk chocolate and light coffee. Background flavors of assorted roasted nuts.

The spicy element has been a consistent MILD to MED black table pepper dusting balancing in with all aforementioned flavors giving the JSK Toothpick 2.0 a nice complexity to the blend.

Thus far the experience is reminiscent of a Carnation ice cream chocolate malt you have at the ballgame. Slight increase of white pepper on the retro with long nutty finish.

In the final third easily identifiable core flavors of milk chocolate, mocha coffee and creamy hazelnut. The background profile is predominantly nutty with assorted roasted nuts, notable are almonds and walnuts blending in perfectly.

The black table pepper noted in the first 2 smoking durations has completely disappeared allowing a myriad of chocolate and nutty flavors to dominate the flavor profile.

Consistent white pepper on the retro evolving into flavors of Cracker Jack caramel on the long complex and balanced finish.

• CONSTRUCTION: Construction was solid! Heavy and dense was the feel of the JSK Toothpick 2.0. Packed with fillers there were no soft spots or blemishes.

• BURN: Semi straight most of the time self correcting in the final duration of all 4 examples.

• ASH: The heavy packed vitola produced a solid compact Whitish-Grey ash at times lasting 2 inches plus!

• CUT: V cut 3, straight cut the last example.

• DRAW: Three examples had slightly more resistance than I prefer but posed no problems, the fourth example smoked for review had heavy resistance on the draw and needed to be poked to loosen it up. Overall score was reduced due to the issue.

• RE LIGHTS: Zero required, various touch ups were voluntary but not required.

• FIRE: JetLine triple torch grenade.

• STRENGTH: Straight MEDIUM bodied wheelhouse with a bevy of FULL chocolatey nutty flavors from first light to final third.

Jas Sum Kral added to its impressive portfolio with the Toothpicks 2.0. Heavy doses of milk chocolate and assorted roasted nuts kept me interested throughout the entire smoking experience, with a price point that won’t break the bank.

The only concern was the draw on the fourth example, I don’t mind a bit of resistance buy this was down right plugged.

I was able to salvage the smoke with zero issues to the flavor profile. In closing it’s worth repeating, “ The JSK Toothpick 2.0 are a F*ck ton of flavor at a amazing price.”
