Cigar Review: Rose of Sharon From Southern Draw Cigars

Rose of Sharon From Southern Draw Cigars

HAND CRAFTED IN ESTELI, NICARAGUA – The Rose of Sharon embraces a unique blend that will enhance the current Southern Draw Cigars core line including the Kudzu – Oscuro and Firethorn – Rosado blends.

A very well-balanced cigar with Mild Body – Medium Flavor.

The natural cloud cover of Ecuador has supplied us with a prized wrapper, a velvety feel, gentle sweetness and a toasty burn, our beloved Nicaragua has gifted us with rich and elegant binder and filler tobaccos while the distinct Piloto Cubano of the Dominican Republic adds a dose of boldness and spice that allows this blend live up to its moniker.

“She don’t know she’s beautiful!”

Besides the apparent beauty of The Rose of Sharon in its semi box pressed format, the release is a celebration of Grace and the devotion of Sharon Holt as she continues her daily service via strong faith and daily fellowship.

“Much like a Rose, Sharon exemplifies our brand with her beautiful soul, humility and a “subtle” boldness which has made an incredible impact on so many lives.

We truly needed to acknowledge her.

  • ROBUSTO: 5.5 X 54
  • TORO: 6 X 52
  • GORDO: 6.5 X 60

The Ecuadorian Sun Grown Connecticut wrapper is Graham Cracker in color, smooth to the touch with minimal seam and notable vein with little to zero tooth.

Rolled in the Robusto format it has a layer of tobacco on the unfinished foot and a rounded cap.

Two bands sit on the cigar with the primary band in rust colored red and burnt orange with gold accents.

Across the band reads “SOUTHERN DRAW” in gold font with an intricate gold design across the top rounding out both sides of the label.

On the bottom reads “SOLIDEO GLORIA” in black font on a solid gold background.

Along the sides reads “AGED” and “HAND MADE”.

The secondary band is pink in color reading “ROSE OF SHARON” in thin gold font with gold accents.

Pre light aroma had notes of cedar and Graham cracker.

The cold draw had slight resistance due to the unfinished footer with flavor notes of vanilla bean, cedar and plain wheat toast.

Slight resistance off the unfinished footer, small ashes of tobacco caused a small mess.

A warm oak aroma off the toasted foot. First light flavors of leather, raw walnuts, honey char and brown sugar.

Background flavors of mild coffee, all spice and raw cinnamon.

The spicy element is in the form of mild to medium black pepper and ginger snap spice.

Clean white pepper on the retro evolving into flavors of sweet cornbread.

Entering cruise control a bevy of breakfast flavors are pouring through. Flavors of plain Cheerios, buttered wheat toast, honey and brown sugar char.

Background flavors of cedar, raw cinnamon, floral and all spice.

The spicy element has decreased, which is not a bad thing with the Rose of Sharon, a mild place pepper dusting is not overpowering the banquet of breakfast flavors.

The retro has decreased slightly with white pepper evolving into flavors of coffee and cornbread.

In the final third the ROS maintained balance and consistency with flavors of plain Cheerios, wheat toast, honey and brown sugar.

Background flavors cedar, cinnamon, leather and all spice floral tea.

Black pepper has decreased significantly allowing FULL flavors to be experienced and enjoyed.

The retro has increased with full white pepper through the nose evolving into flavors of coffee and chocolate.

CONSTRUCTION: Good, the wrapper is notably thinner so it’s softer in spots.

BURN: Razor sharp with a discolored carbon line on the lighter colored wrapper.

ASH: Salt and peppered colored ash, thick and solid holding past the inch point needing force to tap off.

CUT: Straight and v cut 6 different samples.

DRAW: Perfect milkshake type resistance producing adequate smoke output.

STRENGTH: Solid MEDIUM bodied with a banquet of FULL warm and tasty breakfast flavors.
