Short Cuts: Black Label Trading Company/Bishops Blend

Black Label Trading Company/Bishops Blend

BLTC BISHOPS BLEND debuted at last year’s 2016 IPCPR Trade Show in Las Vegas, NV

“The Bishops Blend has been a long time in the making, and I’m very excited for its release”, the second installment of the Bishops Blend is currently shipping to retailers now. “I took a very different approach by using Pennsylvania and Connecticut Broadleaf in the filler. The end result is a very rich and intense flavor profile that highlights the Broadleaf but doesn’t overpower the Nicaraguan tobaccos. The Bishops Blend has a great balance between richness, spice and strength. As with all the BLTC limited releases, it is a unique smoking experience,” says James Brown.

Black Label Trading Company is redefining the standards for cigar making. With a “less is more” philosophy, Black Label Trading Co. creates hand crafted premium cigars of the utmost quality in small batch, limited quantities. APPEARANCE

The Ecuadorian Maduro wrapper is dark chocolate brown in color. Minimal seam, vein and tooth, the wrapper is otherwise smooth and teeming with oils. This particular vitola was purchased more than a year ago with the first release of the blend. There are two bands on the cigar, one center and another near the unfinished footer. Black Label Trading Company has some very interesting art work, Bishops Blend is the first to deviate from a black and white theme to a bold red.

The company’s art work is very gothic by design utilizing skulls and religious symbols, it closely resembles the cross over between Catholicism, Santería and Louisiana Voodoo. The primary label has a skull with crossing keys all in red on a glossy black background. There is something I can’t identify above the skull (although it looks like a bishops hat) which is also in red. The secondary label is near the foot of the cigar in glossy black with red trim reads “Bishops Blend” in red cursive.

The cigar had a rounded cap with a small pointed nipple, the foot is unfinished covered with a thin portion of the wrapper. Pre light aroma had notes of chocolate, barnyard and earth. The cold draw produced flavors of muted chocolate, strong plain tea and leather. Slight resistance was noted due to the unfinished footer.

SUGGESTED PAIRING

CONCLUSION

Bishops Blend was a FULL bodied and FULL flavored example of some of the exotic cigars that BLTC has been pumping out. The cigar took off at first light and crescendoed in strength into the final duration.

Slight resistance was noted on the V-cut even after the unfinished footer burned off. At cruise control I used a straight cut which improved the draw significantly. FULL bodied without compromise of FULL and unique flavors was the theme of the Bishops Blend, complex, consistent and a balanced transition added to the extra long and tasty finish.

The second release of the cigar is currently shipping to retailers around the nation. No specific production numbers were disclosed so grab them where and when you can, they won’t last long.
