Cigar Review: La Flor Dominicana LFD Factory Press 2016

La Flor Dominicana LFD Factory Press 2016

The unique limited edition La Flor Dominicana Factory Press is making a surprise return. La Flor Dominicana Limited Production Factory Press Cigars are premium cigars originated in Dominican Republic. They are crafted by Litto Gomez, the master cigar blender of modern times.

He utilized his La Canela farm grown Dominican fillers and binder. These tobaccos are cultivated carefully and then processed perfectly to get the best results. They are wrapped in a Mexican wrapper tightly.

This concoction produces a full bodied cigar that is filled with savory flavors. They burn smoothly displaying an expert construction. These La Flor Dominicana Limited Production Factory Press Cigars are handmade in the size of 6 1/2 x 60 which is a Toro Gordo.

  • APPEARANCE

The San Andres wrapper is lighter in color than most of the San Andres wrappers I’m use to seeing. Almost the color of bread crust the vitola has very notable tooth, vein and seam. Box pressed, the cigar is very heavily loaded with Dominican tobacco. A very recognizable band sits on the vitola, typical LFD in black and burgundy red with gold accents.

The vitola has a rounded squared off cap with a wide open box pressed foot. Pre-Light aroma smelled of baked bread, chocolate and cedar. The cold draw produced flavors of leather, cedar and light pepper spice on the tongue.

  • FIRST LIGHT

Upon first light flavors of bitter leather, coffee, charred cedar and cashews. A throat punch of black pepper with sweet flavors of cinnamon, brown sugar and sweet natural tobacco.

The black pepper noted has decreased significantly, the disappearance is almost instant during the first inch. A leather aftertaste is noted on the lips and palate in between draws. The retro is producing light black pepper evolving into distinct flavors of milk chocolate.

  • CRUISE CONTROL BURN

Entering cruise control burn I can say this is probably the mildest LFD I’ve ever had! Medium to mild in strength and full on flavors. Leather and chocolate are right up front in full compliment with sweet nuances of molasses and cocoa.

The minimal spice produced is only notable on the lips and tongue in between draws giving a nice balance allowing a long sweet and spicy finish. The retro has increased, producing a respectable level of white pepper evolving into flavors of milk chocolate.

  • FINAL THIRD

During the final third the box pressed LFD is producing an array of sweet flavors in the form of chocolate, brown sugar and thick molasses. Thus far this has not been your typical oily LFD with a full compliment of pepper and spice the Dominican cigar company is known for. A complex array of bold sweet full flavors has me almost power smoking this thing.

I am surprised however of the lack of any pepper and spice even in between draws, instead a distinct leathery aftertaste is noted. The retro has decreased in white pepper allowing and evolving taste of rich chocolate right through the nose.

  • CONSTRUCTION/STRENGTH

Construction on the La Flor Dominicana Factory Press was pretty solid despite its size. The burn line was jagged at times but quickly corrected itself without touch ups. The draw on the straight cut had the perfect amount of resistance producing respectable amounts of thick creamy white smoke.

The darkish grey ash held tight past the inch point and needed help tapping off. The strength of the LFD box press was in the straight MEDIUM and times surprisingly MILD bodied range, however FULL on complex and balanced flavors.
