Cigar Review: Camacho American Barrel Aged Toro

Camacho American Barrel Aged Toro

The Camacho American Barrel Aged line is the eighth regular production line to be released by Camacho Cigars since the makeover of Camacho Cigars occurred. At its core is six-year-old Corojo leaves, American broadleaf, and Pennsylvania maduro that has been locked away in charred Kentucky bourbon barrels.

In order to extract the characteristics of Kentucky bourbon and American Oak, Camacho’s master builders take on this arduous process for five months straight. Wrapped in rugged, all-American broadleaf tobaccos, Camacho American Barrel-Aged delivers a richness and complexity that is an unforgettable experience that blazes new frontiers in complexity.

Under an orange band the American Broadleaf wrapper has a smooth, and at the same time gritty appearance. Another label around the foot reads “American Barrel Aged” upon removing the cello there is a floral aromatic clove fragrance.

Flavors of orange peel, leather with nuances of black pepper and cedar.

After cruise control burn flavors of muted dark chocolate with peat scotch, hickory sweet cedar and roasted almonds. A subtle spice remained in the background but did not overpower.

The background spice kicked up from mild to medium as did the flavor of peat scotch and charred oak. The sweet flavor of toffee and caramelized apples were present on the lips and palate in between draws and remained for the rest of the duration. Subtle black pepper with blasts of charred cedar and smoked hickory appeared in the final stage to close out this MED to FULL bodied cigar.

Was very good and the dark colored ash held past the inch point, a few re-lights were required at the end portion that may have been attributed to over humidification on my part as the cigar was a bit soft in the final inch.
