La Flor Dominicana Airbender Maduro

La Flor Dominicana cigars were introduced to the market in 1994, well into the cigar boom. They are known as some of the most powerful smokes in the business, particularly the Ligero and Double Ligero series. I was very excited at the LFD event at NK CIGAR LOUNGE that the mini straw hut called the casa de tabaco which was modeled after “a true Dominican tobacco curing barn” holding the Air Bender Maduro was available (In limited quantities) or so I am told? I have a feeling that after the initial release of the line in the casa de tabaco curing barn that this will be a readily available cigar to purchase in regular LFD Packaging. The hut has a small thin spot for a humidification device but i’m taking mine out for proper storage so the piece can be properly displayed without worry of any damage or under humidification to my cigars.

The cigar smelled amazing and the pre light draw was full of floral notes with nuances of cinnamon and sweet cedar. After I lit up I was surprised how mellow the cigar started off but once I got going the flavor exploded with chocolate milk and provided a good amount of spice and coco which is balanced by a rich caramel sweetness that was consistant almost the entire way through. Dark chocolate was present and in my opinion never really got past the Med to low-full range. The cigar was a pleasant 1 1/2 hr smoke that would have been extremely well paired with a 20-40 yr tawny port. This was a great cigar that was well worth the wait.
