Archetype Mini Series Cloaks, Ventura Cigar Company

Crystals, Curses, and Cloaks was released with fanfare in July 2018 at IPCPR, and instantly caught the eyes of the industry for its unique blends and backstory.

Now available for consumers on their own quest for standout cigars.

Inspired by the musings of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell over the recurring characters and themes in a hero’s journey, Archetype cigars launched in 2016, and cigar enthusiasts immediately took notice.

Archetype cigars, including Dreamstate, Sage Advice, Strange Passage, Initiation and Axis Mundi have repeatedly been recognized for their flavorful blends and extraordinary smoking experiences.

“We were blown away by the attention the Archetype Mini-series received at IPCPR this year.

We know that Archetype is different, really special.

And if we’re adding to that story, the new smokes needed to live up to the legend of the ones that came before them.

And that, they truly do.”

Michael Giannini, General Manager for Ventura Cigars

Custom-crafted and blended to perfection at the renowned Oliva Factory, the rich layers and flavors of Crystals, Curses, and Cloaks beckon to be tried, tasted, and savored.

Archetype Mini Series Include:

  • Crystals: 5 x 50 Robusto
  • Cloaks: 5 x 50 Square Press Robusto
  • Curses: 5 x 50 Robusto
  • 20-count boxs

  • APPEARANCE

The Broadleaf wrapper is dark chocolate brown in color, at 5 x 50 it’s offered in a square press Robusto format with minimal seam, tooth and vein with a wide open square foot and semi rounded triple cap.

A large plastic sleeve covers the vitola, misty white in color it has a silhouette of a mystic looking warrior colored in bronze complete with bow and a quiver of arrows with a hawk perched on left forearm.

The motif also has a circular “ARCHETYPE” symbol with an “@“ in the middle.

Another smaller band sits on the cigar, colored in matte black with a gold symbol reading “ARCHETYPE” in gold font with “CLOAKS” in white font on a matte black background.

Pre-Light aroma had notes of cocoa, cedar and natural tobacco. The cold draw produced flavors of milk chocolate, mild leather and vanilla wafers.

  • FIRST LIGHT

An aroma of chocolate off the toasted foot. Initial flavors of light cedar char and cocoa bean.

The blend quickly settles in with flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, earth and natural tobacco.

Background flavors of creamy leather and nougat.

Black pepper is keeping the cigar at straight MEDIUM bodied with a balance of coffee and peppered chocolate.

The retro is producing a MEDIUM stream of white pepper evolving into a long finish of mocha.

  • CRUISE CONTROL BURN

Entering the second half an explosion of milk chocolate, earth, coffee and malt are up front and on point.

Background flavors of creamy leather with nuances of charred caramel.

The spicy element has transitioned down to light table pepper balancing in with a bevy of chocolate.

The retro has decreased to MILD white pepper producing an extra long finish of caramel.

  • FINAL THIRD

Heading into the final third the “Archetype Cloaks” is producing consistent core flavors of both dark and milk chocolate, earth, malt and nougat.

Background flavors remain creamy with leather, Cracker Jack caramel and nuances of coffee.

MILD black table pepper is balancing in with a myriad of chocolate flavors.

The retro has increased to MEDIUM white pepper with a long and balanced finish of chocolate and caramel.

  • CONSTRUCTION/STRENGTH

• CONSTRUCTION: The square pressed Robusto felt solid and smooth to the touch. Dense and compact there were no inconsistencies, cracks, palpable soft spots or blemishes.

• BURN: Consistent combustion of all three components producing a straight burn. The carbon line was thick and lightly visible on the dark colored Broadleaf wrapper.

• ASH: Dark grey with black striations the semi squared ash that held more than an inch producing an effect of stacked dimes.

• CUT: V-cut all examples on the semi rounded square press cap.

• DRAW: Wide open with minimal resistance.

• RE LIGHTS: Combustion was continuous with zero re-lights or touch ups required.

• FIRE: JetLine triple torch.

• STRENGTH: Straight MEDIUM bodied wheelhouse with a myriad or both dark and milk chocolate flavors.

  • CONCLUSION

Archetype Mini-Series is one the latest releases from Ventura Cigar Company.

Being a huge fan of the box, or square press the choice of Cloaks was appropriate.

The construction of the vitola was impressive, having consistent combustion of all three components producing a razor sharp burn line on both examples smoked for review.

The flavor and strength profile is suitable for an early morning companion as this would pair PERFECTLY with coffee.
