Short Cuts: Black Label Trading Co. Morphine

Black Label Trading Co. Morphine

“MORPHINE was a huge success for BLTC. I believe it was the right cigar for our company at the right time, we had to bring it back in 2017! After playing with the blend at the new factory we decided to change things up a bit.

The filler blend is now 100% Nicaraguan, with the quality of the Nicaraguan tobacco we have this year, it just made sense to highlight that in the blend.

We also beefed things up a bit by adding a Short Robusto in the mix and changing the corona to a Box Pressed Corona Gorda. All vitolas still have the signature double wrapper of Ecuador Maduro and Mexican San Andrés Maduro.” Said Brown.

Black Label Trading Co. first released MORPHINE in June, 2014. This year MORPHINE was produced by BLTC’s factory, Fabrica Oveja Negra in Esteli.

MOPRHINE features the Mexican San Andres Maduro wrapper and the Ecuadorian Maduro wrapper with both Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers & Nicaraguan Habano binder.

Black Label Trading Company is redefining the standards for cigar making. With a less is more philosophy Black Label Trading Co. creates hand crafted premium cigars of the utmost quality in small batch, limited quantities.

APPEARANCE

The Mexican San Andrés wrapper is milk chocolate in color with very notable seam and smooth with not much tooth or vein. Semi box pressed and rolled in the Robusto torpedo format the vitola measures at 5 x 54. Two bands sit on the uniquely shaped cigar, the primary band has a “Silence Of The Lambs” thing going on.

Gothic in nature, in a typical BLTC theme, looking like a moth or butterfly. A crowned skull covers the upper portion of the insect. Above reads “Black Label” and “Trading Co.” in muted white font.

The band on the footer is matte black with a slight gloss reading “Morphine” in 1800’s Edgar Allan Poe font. With a tapered torpedo cap and a wide open foot.  Pre light aroma had notes of corn bread, damp earth and cocoa. The cold draw produced flavors of citrus and coffee.

CONCLUSION

Oily black pepper, coffee and dark chocolate was the theme of the Morphine.  Enjoyed in the evening, the short vitola produced balanced flavors that transitioned perfectly throughout the smoking duration lasting about an hour.

Spicy pepper was noted on the palate and lips in between draws keeping the Morphine at upper MEDIUM to FULL bodied. Both cigars were sent to me as bodyguards from a purchase early last year, they’ve sat in my humidor ever since, with a second run of Morphines already in route to retailers it was a good time to light, write and check out the goods.

BLTC is quickly ascending into a very sought after company with the philosophy that “Less is More” small batch offerings that fly off shelves faster than retailers can keep them in stock.
