Short Cuts: Viaje Skull and Bones MOAB 2014

Viaje Skull and Bones MOAB 2014

The Viaje Skull and Bones MOAB 2014 is a part of the eleventh batch of Viaje’s Skull and Bones series.  The MOAB is a cigar that actually has appeared in three batches of this series.

The first Skull and Bones MOAB was released back in 2011 as a short torpedo and was among the of first of the Skull and Bones “red blend” (considered the stronger of the Skull and Bones blends).

The Skull and Bones is a full strength, full-bodied line by Viaje. Most of the cigars in the line have been short robustos or short torpedoes, but there have been some exceptions.

Many of the releases are named after bombs. The MOAB stands for (Mother of all Bombs or Massive Ordinance Air Blast).

The MOAB 2014 (as well as the 2012 release) also has a counterpart called the FOAB (Father of All Bombs). The FOAB is similar to the MOAB, but it has a thicker ring gauge.

APPEARANCE

The Nicaraguan Criollo wrapper is dark brown with lighter brown accents in the outside light. Looking rustic, dangerous and beautiful with visible seam, vein and notable tooth. It’s part of Viajes extensive portfolio of explosives The MOAB, which is an acronym that stands for MASSIVE-ORDINANCE-AIR-BURST or more commonly called the “Mother of all bombs”.

One band sits on the vitola, sporting the symbol which has become synonymous with Viaje, the Skull and Bones symbol or Jolly Roger in white on a matte black background. The vitola has a wide open foot with a triple rounded cap. Pre light aroma had notes of barnyard, cedar and dried fruit. The cold draw produced flavors of leather, dried meat and chocolate.

SUGGESTED PAIRINGS

CONCLUSION

One of my favorite offerings from Viaje is the skull and bones series it really gives you the feeling of smoking something rare and hard to find.

One thing I’ve noticed and this is just my personal opinion, the edition of a Criollo wrapper on anything Viaje produces gives the vitola an extra spicy element to it.

Three years of age hasn’t mellowed out the blend in the slightest, It’s still as destructive and tasty as the day it launched.
