Short Cuts: Viaje Exclusivo Shorts

Viaje Exclusivo Shorts

It’s a blast from the past from the small batch company. Viaje fans rejoice it’s the return of the Viaje Exclusivo Shorts, a vitola that has not been shipped in the past six years. Viaje Exclusivo Shorts is based off a blend that originally started out as a personal blend for company founder Andre Farkas. The line is a Nicaraguan puro highlighted by a Criollo wrapper. While the company has introduced four (three U.S.) regular production sizes, it still has maintained many sizes as part of its small batch model, by which the Shorts is one of them.

Viaje Exclusivo cigars gained mass appeal when a few were handed out at events. Due to the response of the cigar, Exclusivo made a brief apperace to consumers via limited release jars in another size (robusto). Since then, the blend has been used for a couple of sizes and now, this 4 1/2 x 42 petite corona is a medium to full bodied Nicaraguan puro that packs quite a punch!

APPEARANCE

The Viaje Exclusivo Short’s Criollo wrapper is dark brown in color. Toothy with visible vein and seam, rolled in the petite corona format it measures in at 4 1/4 x 42. Don’t let the size of this cigar fool you! Big things come in small sizes and the Exclusivo Short from Viaje is no exception. Known for their portfolio of explosives, the short packs an wallop of FULL strength and balanced flavor.

One band sits on the vitola with the recognizable “VIAJE” logo no description is required. The cigar has an open foot with a triple cap and small pigtail. Pre light aroma had notes of light barnyard, cocoa and cedar. The cold draw produced flavors of coffee, leather and cherry wood.

SUGGESTED PAIRING

CONCLUSION

Called the Exclusivo Short, it was long and balanced on flavor. With a razor sharp burn line and a wide open effortless draw it packed a myriad of complex and perfectly transitioned flavors. A very well made cigar with excellent construction.

It was in the FULL bodied wheelhouse, perfect for a smoke on the go or with a morning cup of coffee, walking the dog, smoke break or whenever time permits, it’s time well spent. Andre Farkas continues to impress with another offering of box worthiness cigars that solidifies the company as king of small batch.
