Short Cuts: Cubariqueño Cigar Co. Protocol Cigars/Probable Cause

Cubariqueño Cigar Co. Protocol Cigars/Probable Cause

Launched nationally at the 2015
IPCPR trade show in New Orleans,
Cubariqueno was created by two police officers, Juan Cancel & Bill Ives. The La Zona cigar factory in
Esteli, Nicaragua is the choosen
location where all Cubariqueno
blends are created under the
watchful eye of Erik Espinosa.

Probable Cause is available in two offerings, a round 5 x 52 Robusto with a closed foot (No closed foot on the examples smoked for review) and a 6 ½ X 48 Churchill semi-box-pressed, also with a closed foot. Probable Cause is elegantly wrapped in a stunning Mexican San Andreas Maduro leaf with a smooth, oily appearance. Its all- [probable cause cigar] Nicaraguan filler is enveloped by a Nicaraguan binder. “We are classifying Probable Cause as a medium-strength cigar with full flavor,” explained Cancel, Both vitolas will be available in boxes of 10.

AVAILABLE SIZES
  • Robusto: 5 x 52
  • Churchill: 6 1/2 x 48

APPEARANCE

Medium coffee bean brown in color, the Protocol Probable Cause Mexican San Andreas maduro wrapper is rough to the feel with tooth, seam and vein. The roll is  firm and finished with a triple cap. The Protocol Probable Cause is double banded in metallic silver, black and red. The primary band is a large 3-D “P” along with “Protocol”. And the back, being a law enforcement themed line, has none other than “C.I.A”. The secondary band has the line name “Probable Cause”. Pre light aroma had notes of cedar, mild barnyard and hints of light milk chocolate. The cold draw produced flavors of wood/cedar, leather and pumpernickel bread. Rob reviewed the Probable Cause last Nov, CLICK HERE to check it out.

CONCLUSION

Cubariqueño pays homage to the Bill Ives and Juan Cancel’s heritage, Cuban and Puerto Rican respectively.  The name of the cigar, Probable Cause is a widely used term in law enforcement where the duo serve as police officers in New York City. At CIGAR SMOKE we commend and support all the men and women of law enforcement, Probable Cause gets major props.

The transition through the smoking duration was balanced and unloaded a myriad of flavors in the final third as the cigar just kept getting better and rolling out code 3 for the perfect finish. One final note on the burn line, this is the 5th Probable Cause I’ve had, with the exception of this one example they all had a razor sharp burn line. This was in error on my part, the cigar was in an overly humidified storage unit and several other cigars had the same problem.

Quick fix, the problem solved and back to the perfect settings. The Jury has deliberated and the verdict is in! Probable cause is the clear winner, however, guilty on several counts of flavor and great taste.
