Short Cuts: Tatuaje Skinny Frank

Tatuaje Skinny Frank

The name does these beautifully horrific smokes justice, transforming their size to match the connoisseur’s ideal experience, offering the cigars in 6 x 38 petit lancero’s, all 10 of the Monster blends were included, amassed from previous Monster releases, offering every Monster blend prior to 2016’s “The Krueger” cigar. Fans only complaints with all these monsters? They want to smoke them full time! And in 2016, Tatuaje owner Pete Johnson made the task more manageable, with all 10 Little Monsters becoming much more widely available, sold in their own 25-count jar-style boxes the die-hard craft junkie can now peruse the entire Monster Collection to their heart’s content.

APPEARANCE

The Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper is dark coffee bean in color. Very notable seam, tooth and vein. This particular example had a raised piece of wrapper near the label. I purchased a five pack from my usual dealer, the remaining four vitolas are ascetically perfect. One band sits on the Frank, olive green in color with “Tatuaje” in black cursive. Along the sides read “Skinny” and “Monsters” in black wicked font, the Tatuaje logo is at the end of the band. The vitola has a rounded cap with an open foot. Pre light aroma had notes of dried fruit, raisins and mild barnyard cedar. The cold draw produced flavors of leather, strong plain tea and mild pepper spice.

CONSTRUCTION/STRENGTH

  • Wrapper had some inconsistencies near the band
  • Milkshake type resistance on the draw on the v cut
  • Burn line was off/Favored one side but mostly straight
  • Ash was loose but held past the inch point
  • One re light required in the final third
  • The vitola burned extremely hot past the band burning the lips
  • Strength high medium to full

SUGGESTED PAIRINGS

CONCLUSION

The Tatuaje Skinny Frank produced some tasty flavors, it lacked balance due to the quick transition time between first light and final third. There was very little time spent at cruise control as the vitola had an ultra fast smoke time. I expected the duration of cigar to be shorter due to it’s size, however the Skinny Frank burned faster then expected.
